Launch for ECHR 75

Edin outside venue.jpg

At the Edinburgh Fringe this year, on the dates a human rights convention was first discussed at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, we launched Songs of the People - our commemoration of ECHR75 - with performances of Dreams of Peace & Freedom.

We continued the launch through the autumn on tour, travelling the length of the UK as we sang to celebrate the protections given to us by the European Convention on Human Rights at the start of its 75th anniversary year.

We passed through towns and cities that preserve and revere Magna Carta, the first great Charter of Freedom : Salisbury, Canterbury, Bury St Edmunds, Lincoln, and Durham sharing our travels on social media along the way.

As we journeyed towards the source of our stream of natural law, Dornoch in the north of Scotland, we stopped at other places that are connected to the Convention through our storyteller David Maxwell Fyfe, where larger scale performances of Dreams of Peace & Freedom will be staged later in the year : Liverpool and Oxford, which holds copies of Magna Carta in the Bodleian Library.

For the London launch of Songs of the People, in the week of International Human Rights Day we carolled for peace and freedom in the city to celebrate ECHR's protections in song.  We sang Safety in various locations around the city including Doughty Street Chambers, by the festive ice rink in Somerset House, and on Whitehall by 10 Downing Street.
